Ask the average person on the street where the seat of power is in the world and you will get a myriad of answers, very few of which will be right.

If you ask someone who is a conspiracy theorist, or subscribes to the notion, you will hear about the Bilderberg Society (sometimes also called The Illuminati), its controlling members, as opposed to its openly published leadership, a secret to all but a select few worldwide. Depending on which version of this conspiracy they subscribe to, you will hear that this shadow world government has existed either since the days of ancient Egypt, or since 1954 when the first meeting of this unofficial society met at the Bilderberg Hotel in Oosterbeek, Netherlands. The difference between the two versions is that the ancient group (The Illuminati) is supposed to have evolved to the point they could congregate with impugnity at the time of the first official meeting, assured of their place in power. Their eventual goal is supposedly the formation of a unified world government -- The New World Order. In their efforts to accomplish this goal, all monetary policy is governed by the Society without regard to any national sovereignty. All visible heads of state across the world are supposedly puppets to placate the people and give them the illusion of autonomy. It is said by some that this group ordered the assassination of President John F. Kennedy due to the Kennedy clan's high distrust of the aims of the Society. However, it is extremely difficult to give credibility to this notion in the face of a lack of incontrovertible proof of the existence of intentions to take over the entire world.

Others who have paid little attention to economic issues and currents around the globe may opine that their own national leader holds the seat of power -- United States' President, United Kingdom's Prime Minister, President of France, the German Prime Minister, the Chinese Chairman of the Communist Party, et al. The truth is most of these world political leaders do not hold the reins of power.
