Bank Commercial Public Sector
The World Bank compass of attention seems to have shifted in favor of Africa going by the numerical strength of developmental projects streamed across the continent with the sole aim of alleviating transportation hiccups and by extension, improve the standard of living of the general populace.
In Lagos, the commercial nerve center of Nigeria, World Bank has funded what it described as a new bus system to augment the public transport system which is hitherto inadequate or uncomfortable. This laudable gesture, aside being safe, fast and affordable, has been adjudged a right step in the right direction by all and sundry and specifically by commuters who depend solely on public transport system.
The commuters may be right after all. About 17 million people live in Lagos. Amazingly, seven million of them are on the road on a daily basis contending for every available space. In addition to easing transportation problem, World Bank has also made its presence felt in other spheres of life.
